Someone has to go first
Every student in Give, Save, Spend is about to make the first real financial decisions of their adult life: a salary, a budget, debt, giving. Usually without anyone who has done it faithfully sitting down with them first. That’s the whole job. Be that person, for one student, for one semester.
What you are actually agreeing to
- Four one-hour conversations across a semester, by phone, Zoom, or in person, whatever works for both of you.
- Your student will reach out first to schedule. From there, the two of you set the pace.
- You don’t need a lesson plan. The conversations come with guided questions, and your student leads.
- Come ready to talk about your own faith and money story, including how Compass or Generous Giving may have shaped it, rather than giving advice from a distance.

The faith affirmation
Mentors affirm that they are followers of Jesus. This is a faith-integration program, and that is the starting point for the conversations it asks you to have.
Compass: expected, not a gate
The mentor application asks whether you’ve taken a Compass class. Most mentors have, and it is part of what they bring to the table. It is not required in order to mentor.

Early in the semester, your student contacts you to schedule the first conversation. From there, the four conversations are between the two of you.
